At 47, Steven’s life took an unexpected turn, when a back injury disrupted his long-term career in construction. The sudden change in his ability to work in the only field he knew, took a toll on his mental health. atWork Australia, and Job Coach Georgia, worked with Steven to find him a career he is now thriving in.
“Steven’s mental health was affected when he realised he needed to make a change to his long-term career. He had self-doubt about his abilities to work in a different field,” said Georgia from the atWork Australia Townsville office.
“We worked hard with Steven to keep him motivated and provided him ways to build on his self-confidence such as one-on-one coaching and wellbeing support.”
atWork Australia helped Steven to obtain his Blue Card and organised an NDIS screening so he could start a new career in lifestyle support. A casual position that is flexible to support reduced working hours and his back injury.
“Steven has gone from strength to strength in this role. His outlook on life has changed immensely because he feels he is giving back to society. He has even taken on additional mental health training through his new employer so he can assist his clients further,” said Georgia.
