Christine has never been in paid employment in her whole life and needed a spark of confidence to take the first step to securing a role and thriving in her employment journey.
Christine is living with depression, anxiety, severe osteoarthritis, and vocational barriers. This is a story about how Christine found a supportive Job Coach at the atWork Australia office in Blacktown, NSW. A Job Coach who went above and beyond in helping Christine achieve her goal.
Job Coach Sarah met Christine during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 where she worked remotely to develop Christine’s job readiness. A major part of this was to give Christine a boost of confidence and help her recognise how she is unique and has many talents which can add value to the workplace.
Through this process, Job Coach Sarah was able to assist Christine with confidently attending interviews and overcome her perception that she would not be selected. Sarah went above and beyond, building trust with Christine and mentoring her.
After several attempts with mock interviews, moral encouragement, various interviews, and work trials; Christine was referred to a Process Worker role in a food manufacturing business. Job Coach Sarah assisted Christine so she can be prepared to attend the interview and supported her with travel to her job interview.
Christine successfully secured the Process Worker role with Sarah’s support and mentorship.
Sarah says: “Christine was so excited, that she called me twice for three days to ask about the interview and job trial outcome. When I told her she secured the job, Christine was so thankful as this meant a lot for her as she previously had limited confidence in her abilities to add value to the workplace.”
Sarah attended the job trial with Christine and supported her through the first six weeks after she secured the role. This included transport assistance, as Christine experienced anxiety when travelling in public transport.
