Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce successful in its application to deliver Empower Me to Employment (EMtE) under the Local Jobs Program in Perth South, WA.

Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce in partnership with atWork Australia will deliver EMtE to connect jobseekers in the Perth South Employment Region with sustainable employment.

EMtE is a transformational four-to-six-week pre-employment program that will upskill and reskill people looking for work, with a focus on mature aged people who identify as women returning to the workforce. EMtE is a holistic program that involves mentoring, work experience and bespoke pre-employment training in emotional readiness, work readiness and technical skills required for employment in key sectors including Aged Care, Construction, Local Government and Hospitality.

A key part of EMtE is an initial one on one interview with participants to get to know them and their employment and training goals, as well as to identify opportunities to connect them with other supports in the community. EMtE will be individually tailored for each participant based on information gathered from the initial interviews. The goal is to support participants in becoming work ready.

To ensure participants are best placed to find sustainable work, EMtE will be co-designed with employer input from Social Care Assistance (Aged Care), Hospitality, Construction, Administration, Customer Service, and Warehousing industries.

Employment opportunities will be available with local employers for successful participants in the following positions:

•    Administration Officer
•    Personal Care Assistant
•    Assistant in Nursing
•    Care Support Officer
•    Receptionist
•    Housekeeping Service Officer
•    Customer Service
•    Concierge
•    Food and Beverage Attendants

The Local Jobs Program is a collaboration of Employment Facilitators, Taskforces, Employment Services Providers, and the Local Recovery Fund. The goal is to connect people looking for work with appropriate employment or training opportunities, as efficiently as possible, to support Australia’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The collaboration between Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce and atWork Australia will officially kick off on 8 March and will include three intakes concluding at the end of August. Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce and atWork Australia look forward to reporting on the outcome of EMtE in due time.

*The Local Jobs Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
