Good news from atWork Australia

For many clients living with disability, it can be difficult to see how employment can be a regular ongoing feature in their lives.

Disability Employment Services client, Kaine, lives with medical conditions and this has impacted his self-esteem and confidence.

He started working with the atWork Australia team in the Morayfield, Queensland, office with his barriers still holding him back.

As the team got to know Kaine, they referred him into atWork Australia’s Positivum program.

“Our experience and research literature indicates that it is often not the initial injury or condition that precludes an individual from successfully sustaining or returning to employment, but rather their beliefs and perceptions in relation to their health, ability and work,” said his Job Coach Kyla.

atWork Australia’s Positivum program, developed in consultation with Monash University, works on addressing these beliefs.

Once Kaine felt as though he could work, Kyla then referred him into the Jobs Now program to work on building his resume and learning how to job search.

“Kaine has become more positive and confident. He realises he is able to work and keeps coming in for appointments,” said Kyla.

“Something that has made a big difference for Kaine is knowing we are reliable and will continue supporting him.”

Kaine expressed his interest in becoming a support worker, he had previously completed a Certificate III in Aged Care and a Certificate II in Community Support but previously didn’t have the confidence to pursue any work in this field.

Kayla, along with the Morayfield Employer Engagement team, approached employers they felt would be a good fit for Kaine and advocated on his behalf. He is now working as a Support Worker, achieving his goals.

“Working has given me a good routine. I have been able to learn new skills and have obtained a career in the field I was wanting to,” said Kaine, Disability Employment Services, Client.

Every year, atWork Australia help thousands of clients like Kaine, expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals
