He was finding it difficult to find secure accommodation, he had a history of substance abuse, no drivers licence and found it challenging to maintain employment. With the support of atWork Australia and his Job Coach, Sarah, he began taking positive steps to turn his life around.
For a period of time, Andrew was going back and forth to Perth on a regular basis to get support to overcome his barriers and now he has been able to find stable accommodation in his hometown, Northam. Now Andrew was in stable accommodation, he reached out to atWork Australia for support to get his driver’s licence and to find employment.
When Andrew met his Job Coach, Sarah, she was able to tailor the way he met his monthly requirements to reflect the challenges he was currently facing, which allowed Andrew to focus on his recovery and completing his driving lessons. Sarah was able to work closely with the local driving school to ensure Andrew could complete his lessons and be successful in his final test. Andrew was quite nervous about his final test, however, his Job Coach, Sarah, provided encouragement and reminded him that he had put in the work, developed his skills and that he should believe in his abilities.
Additionally, Sarah supported Andrew to access financial support through the employment fund so he could purchase interview and work clothing. Andrews Job Coach, Sarah, said, “Andrew has come a long way on his journey with atWork Australia. When he first commenced, he was a bit frustrated and feeling like he was not being heard. I have been able to develop a strong relationship with Andrew, he is now finding his feet and really excited about the future.”
Due to Andrew’s perseverance and dedication to overcoming his challenges, he has been successful in earning his driver’s licence, found employment as a labourer and, through his own efforts, he now has his own home.
