Good news from atWork Australia.

“When I first met Ericka, she hadn’t worked in years and believed she wasn’t able to work again,” said Job Coach, Tanjah.

Disability Employment Services client, Ericka, started working with Tanjah in the Nowra office in NSW.

Ericka lives with a variety of medical conditions, including Osteoarthritis and a Gastroenterological condition. She had spent the last 20 years homeschooling and looking after her mother.

After being unemployed for this time and having limited work experience, on top of her medical conditions, Ericka wasn’t sure what she would be able to do.

“In the past, Ericka had done some computer courses to gain extra skills but she realised this type of work was not for her,” said Tanjah.

“She spoke so negatively about work, but I believed in her.”

Tanjah got to know Ericka and learnt she had an interest in clothing and fashion. Tanjah started to encourage Ericka towards roles in clothing stores and she shortly landed a role in a retail store.

“Ericka didn’t have her licence but she studied the bus route so well. We made sure she had employment that was on the bus route and during the day to make it easier for her.”

Once Ericka landed the role, Tanjah took her shopping to purchase clothing to wear.

“We went to the store she was going to be working in and picked out some clothes. This made Ericka feel really confident,” said Tanjah.

“Now she is excited to start her new journey working.”

“Being employed has made me feel good about myself; it motivates me to be a better version of myself,” said Ericka.
