“Life changing” was how 30-year-old, Workforce Australia client, Jacob described his employment journey with the atWork Australia team in Denmark, WA.
After spending the past several years in and out of odd jobs and volunteering work, he reached out for assistance in landing a sustainable long-term position.
When Jacob started working with Job Coach, Tanya, he didn’t have an Australian Driver’s Licence, making searching for jobs difficult.
Tanya got to know Jacob’s goals, plans, and values, and created a tailored job plan to get him into employment.
As a first point of call, Tanya worked with a local Driver’s Licence mentorship program ‘wheels 4 work’. This program allowed Jacob to build his skills and confidence behind the wheel.
At this same time, Tanya and Jacob worked at visualising his future employment and looking at steps to ensure he would get there.
But everything seemed to fall into place after Tanya experienced some technical problems with her computer. Jacob shared some ways in which the issue can be solved. Tanya was impressed.
After fixing the issue, she asked how he was so knowledgeable within the field. Turns out Jacob studied Information Technology (IT) at TAFE many years ago, but he did not pursue this career as he believed it was a competitive market within the region.
After discovering there were no IT services in Denmark, the pair set their eyes on Jacob’s new goal – a mobile IT business.
To meet his goals, Tanya enrolled him within a small business course to assist him gaining skills to help him within the next stages of his journey.
Within only the space of several months, not only has Jacob got a job, but he has also started his own mobile IT business. Two massive achievements.
