When Jennifer first came to atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Service office in Golden Grove, South Australia, she had been unemployed for many years. Due to her health barriers, she thought she was not able to return to work.
When Jennifer met her Job Coach, Rhiannon, at her initial appointment, she explained to her Job Coach that she did not feel ready to work. Rhiannon listened and outlined how atWork Australia could put plans in place to support her to slowly start taking steps towards employment. Rhiannon opened the conversation and asked what Jennifer would like to do and if she would be interested in completing a course.
While Jennifer and Rhiannon were discussing different options, they decided to look over the job board to see if there were any suitable vacancies. Rhiannon spotted a role in a school canteen. Rhiannon knew Jennifer had experience in a similar role and asked if she would be interested in applying, which Jennifer agreed to.
Rhiannon helped Jennifer apply for the canteen position with one of atWork Australia’s key employer partners, Rory’s School Lunches. Jennifer was so excited when she received the good news that she had secured the position.

Rhiannon has continued supporting Jennifer now that she has started work, to ensure she is happy and completing her role to the best of her ability.
Jennifer has been loving her new job, she has been working at Rory’s School Lunches since May and her employer has been very impressed with her performance. Because of her hard work and exceptional performance, Jennifer has been given a promotion to Canteen Manager and now has staff reporting to her. Last month, the business had a competition to see which school canteen could achieve the highest sales growth and Jennifers canteen was the winner. Jennifer’s Job Coach, Rhiannon, said, “From the first time I met Jennifer, her confidence has continued to grow. I am so proud of how she is going in her new role.
