When Robert came to atWork Australia, he was dealing with unimaginable grief from a tragic incident in his life. Additionally, at the most challenging period of his life, he lost the job he had done for the last thirty years. He could no longer work as a HC truck driver.
When Robert came to his initial appointment at the St Mary’s, NSW, office to get support from the Workforce Australia team, he was not ready to work. Robert was in a state of grief. However, due to Robert’s financial situation, he needed to find full time work. Robert was introduced to his Job Coach, Cassandra, and he explained he was unsure of what he could do, but said he was willing to wash cars if he had too.
Cassandra suggested that Robert could complete a course and slowly transition back into the workplace. Cassandra referred Robert to atWork Australia’s internal program, MoneyMinded. MoneyMinded is a financial education program delivered by accredited coaches. This is when Robert met his Pre-Employment Facilitator, Nazreen, who continued supporting Robert on his journey.
After completing the course, Robert stated that he wished he had learnt these skills to manage his personal finances when he was in high school.
To support Robert to secure employment, Nazreen created him a new resume and cover letter. As Robert had worked the same job for the last thirty years, he was not sure what to write on his resume or where he would even start looking for work. Nazreen explained that during his thirty years in the workforce, he would have developed many transferable skills that would be relevant in other positions.
Nazreen created Robert a SEEK profile and taught him how to apply for jobs online. Additionally, Nazreen referred Robert to atWork Australia’s Jobs Now program, which is an internal employment preparation program. Robert has now set his sights on obtaining his high reaching forklift ticket and is eager to start applying for jobs with his new ticket.
Robert’s Pre-Employment Facilitator, Nazreen, said,” Robert has been on the mend emotionally and I feel he has come a long way since coming to atWork Australia. He has been working very hard to secure his high reaching forklift ticket. Robert continues to be proactive on his employment journey, he has obtained his police checks and is ready to start work as soon as the right opportunity arises.”
