Ron (52), acquired a serious shoulder injury leaving him unable to continue in his current employment of physical work in construction.
Unemployed for four years, Ron began working with atWork Australia’s Redbank Plains, QLD, office, seeking support to find a new career path.
His Job Coach initially supported Ron to complete his forklift licence as an option to stay in a less physical role in an industry he enjoyed.
“When I fist met Ron, we built an almost instant rapport, and he began to trust the atWork Australia team,” said Tayla, Job Coach.
Ron was approached with a new idea for employment. He was asked if he would consider working in a supervisor trainer role which would allow him to use his skills to train the next generation.
“Ron had never considered this type of work before. He now works with young adults, something he never considered he was capable of,” said Tayla.
Ron commenced in voluntary work as a supervisor in training with the Tivoli Social Enterprise for two weeks. Ron was volunteering in the construction program and has now moved onto paid employment in the role.
Ron has expressed how grateful he is for the support he has received from atWork Australia. He feels welcomed to pop in whenever he wishes.
