23-year-old Disability Employment Services client, Amber, receives the support she needs from atWork Australia to support her daughter.
Amber has ADHD, limited work history, and has low confidence in herself and her abilities to perform within the workplace. The combination of these factors made the transition back into the workforce after a year, increasingly difficult to do solo. So, she reached out to the atWork Australia team in Ravenswood, Tasmania, for assistance.
Upon entering the office for the very first time, she was greeted by Ella’s smiley face, which instantly put her at ease. Within this first appointment, the pair got to know each other so a tailored Job Plan could be formed.
It was within this appointment, that Amber highlighted her difficultly to remain in a position for more than six months. Ella explained that this could potentially be a result of the jobs not being suitable to her and her lifestyle.
To kick start her employment journey, Ella and Amber got straight to work on mock interviews, interview techniques and questions. At this same time, the pair also worked on creating a brand-new resume to highlight her skills and attributes, so when the perfect opportunity arose, they were ready to go.
Together, the pair brainstormed several different industries that Amber could enter. They found it difficult deciding on an industry and position for Amber, as she would constantly change her mind as she did not feel ‘good enough’. Each time this was mentioned, Ella would be quick to tell her otherwise as she could see how great of an asset she would be for any employer.
With time, and several more conversations with Ella on her self-worth and skills, Amber attended a job interview. She was later successful in gaining the casual position.
This position not only gave her financial freedom and added confidence, but it has also allowed her to learn new skills in a new setting, all while continuing to care for her daughter.
