When the standard recipe for job searching wasn’t working in Tanya’s favour, she mixed it up a bit with the help of atWork Australia to find her desired outcome.
After being knocked back after a few job interviews, Tanya finally landed a role as a Canteen Assistant.
Tanya (49) started with atWork Australia in Miller, NSW, back in 2018. She lives with anxiety and depression and found it confronting to attend interviews.
Unfortunately, this meant that despite the few work trials and interviews she had, she wasn’t successful as her anxiety took over.
Tanya was feeling low and was frustrated that she was yet to be successful in an interview.
Tanya worked with her Job Coach Mary on a different approach when she learned she had an interview as a Canteen Assistant.
Together, a few days before her interview, Mary and Tanya visited the workplace to look around. Tanya became familiar with how to get to the interview, where to go, and what to expect when she arrived; this reduced her anxiety on the day of the interview and Tanya was successful.
atWork Australia also supported Tanya with the work clothes she needed to start in her new role.
“Now that she is working, she has a more positive approach in her life,” said Job Coach Mary.
Tanya is excited and happy to now be working. “I am so happy and satisfied now I have a job that is suitable for me,” said Tanya.
“I’m happy to be back in the world with others and not just stuck inside the same four walls.”
“Such a great feeling to see Tanya in a job after all the knockbacks. It shows persistence pays off and you should never give up.” – Mary, Job Coach, NSW
