After 2 years of unemployment, Jamie from Wollongong, NSW is happily employed as a Kitchen Hand at a local private hospital.
23-year-old Jamie lives with Autism, prior to connecting with atWork Australia’s Warilla office Jamie hadn’t had success in finding work. Joining atWork Australia meant Jamie could have someone else advocating for her potential in the workforce.
atWork Australia instantly matched Jamie with Trevor, a Dedicated Disability Job Coach to discuss his options and find a path that would work for him.
Trevor set about identifying any potential barriers for Jamie and helped ease her anxieties about entering the workforce. Trevor worked with Jamie to help build her confidence and increase her motivation about finding local work.
Trevor was able to assist Jamie in searching for jobs and perfecting her resume and cover letter.
When Jamie was feeling more confident, Trevor helped Jamie apply for work at a local private hospital, in the role of Kitchen Hand.
After a successful interview, Jamie was thrilled to be offered and accept the role.
Jamie has received ongoing support from Trevor in her role, and Jamie now feels like she is suited to her role and is happy she is able to do meaningful work, feeding those in need of support in hospital.
Jamie was elated with the support given to her by her Job Coach Trevor, Trevor stated: “Jamie told me that she feels comfortable talking to me about anything that is troubling her.”
Jamie looks forward to becoming an independent worker, she said she was “very happy dealing with Trevor” and said he was very trustworthy.
It’s not just Jamie and Trevor who are happy with the outcome, Jamie’s manager is happy to have found a great, new recruit. “Jamie is a good employee. She is also a very good worker”
