Indigenous client, Shane, had been working as a track worker for many years, then due to medical reasons he lost his job.
Shane came to the atWork Australia, Workforce Australia office in Marrickville, Sydney, feeling negative and down about his future in employment.
“He had no hope when it came to finding work,” said his Job Coach, Bill.
Bill could see that Shane needed to work on his mindset before he would accept support to find a new job, so Bill spoke to Shane about atWork Australia’s Jobs for the Mob program.
This program specifically supports Indigenous clients with skills to enhance progression towards home, education, and work goals.
“Shane engaged really well with this workshop,” said Bill.
“It really supported him to build his self-confidence back up.”
Shane’s negative way of thinking soon became more positive and he started to set some goals, including returning to work in the train industry.
Another skill Shane gained during the Jobs for the Mob training, was improved interview skills, and greater confidence during interviews.
Post program, Bill is currently working with Shane to practice his new interview skills, while continuing to encourage him to see the best version of himself.
Shane is currently signed up to attend a Sydney Train Information Session and will look to attend a few job interviews to put his newfound skills to the test.
atWork Australia is alongside Shane, ready to support him, as he continues on his journey to reach his goals.
