Noeun came to atWork Australia with a wide range of work experience as a pick and packer, machine operator and steel fixer. Unfortunately, due to medical reasons, he had to stop working in 2012.
Despite being a Disability Support Pension recipient, Noeun decided to voluntarily participate in the Disability Employment Services program with atWork Australia. He was motivated to find work despite his barriers and was passionate about doing whatever he could to reach his goals.
Based on Noeun’s mental health and past substance abuse, he found he frequently engaged in overthinking and struggled to focus. He was also struggling to organise and maintain his own self-care, self-motivation, and often experienced low moods. Noeun needed just a little help in boosting his confidence and applying for jobs – that’s where atWork Australia came in.
Carine, Noeun’s Job Coach, paired up with Noeun to together formulate a plan to find Noeum good, local work. Noeun advised he was after something practical, as he enjoys moving around and keeping busy. Carine used this goal and Noeun’s employment history to develop a targeted resumé. From here, Carine assisted Noeun with looking and applying for suitable positions online, and Noeun was marketed to suitable vacancies through atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement Consultant.
“I would often prepare before Noeun’s appointments by searching online for potential vacancies to discuss with Noeun, and then apply for the roles he was keen on,” Carine said. Carine also arranged for Noeun to obtain his White Card, increasing his employability.
Noeun was presented to a moving and storage company for a General Hand/Offsider role. He interviewed really well and was asked to start the role the very next day. “Noeun was always very employable. He was determined to find work, he just need a little help along the way,” Carine said. An incredible outcome for Noeun.
To ensure Noeun settled in well to his new role, having not worked for six years, atWork Australia also supported Noeun through our Post Placement Support program, supporting Noeun to maintain his job. Noeun is very happy and content in his new role, “My health conditions are under control and I enjoy working. It also gives me more financial independence,” Noeun said.
Another great outcome for a jobseeker who had the motivation and drive to get back into the workforce after six years of unemployment.
