atWork Australia hosted a series of Mental Health Month breakfast events at three different locations in the Western Sydney region this week, including Blacktown, Penrith and Parramatta.
NSW: In support of Mental Health Month, atWork Australia’s Western Sydney team hosted three breakfast events to raise awareness about the prevalence of mental health conditions, reduce the stigma associated with mental health, and to discuss the benefits of work on our health, including our mental health and wellbeing.
Numerous speakers captivated the room including the Work Health Group CEO David Sagar, local MPs, city counsellors and health professionals, who all spoke about mental health conditions in Australia and beyond, and the benefits of work on health, including mental health. Speakers also encouraged attendees to think about their mental health and wellbeing, and how society can help reduce the stigma around mental health conditions.
One in five Australians aged 16-85 experience a mental health condition each year – most commonly depression, anxiety, substance abuse. With one in five Australian’s experiencing a mental health condition, the chances of someone close to you experiencing a mental health condition is high.
Three different clients from atWork Australia shared their journeys on living with mental health conditions and how work helped them change their lives for the better. Attendees were inspired and touched by the guest speakers individual stories, challenges and achievements.
Attendees enjoyed a catered breakfast and met local stakeholders, discussing various topics including mental health, and the positive impact of work on improving mental health and wellbeing.
