Nik had a work-experience background in care work but was finding that trying to return to that industry was negatively impacting his mental health.
He started working with Job Coach, Chelsea, in the Workforce Australia office in Northam, Western Australia.
Chelsea got to know Nik and was able to tailor his service to meet his individual needs.
Chelsea learnt that being unemployed for a number of years had impacted Nik’s mental health and he needed to take care of himself first.
She referred Nik into atWork Australia’s Wellness Services so he could access a trained psychologist quickly.
Throughout his journey with atWork Australia, Nik participated in an online course looking to return to the industry he was familiar with. However, after another unsuccessful interview, his Job Coach, Chelsea, suggested they look at other options.
She encouraged Nik that he could work in a new industry, even at 52-years-old.
He started studying a Certificate III in Civil Construction and his confidence and engagement began to grow.
“Nik’s self-confidence is growing. He comes in with a smile on his face and even Nik has commented on seeing improvement, especially once he commenced training for his Certificate,” said Job Coach, Chelsea.
“atWork Australia has always been really helpful and has treated me as an individual,” said Nik.
“They make sure I do not feel pressured. It is the first provider I have been with that has actually cared about me as a person.”
” I am more focused on gaining employment in the future and am grateful for the assistance everyone has provided to me. I am excited and motivated to start a new page in my life.”
