atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services client, Cooper, recently graduated university with a degree in screen media and animation.
Cooper is autistic and didn’t realise how hard it would be to find work in animation, especially with limited work experience.
“For a while, I thought I was never going to get a job at all, that was until I learnt all about atWork Australia,” said Cooper.
Cooper started working with his Job Coach, Fiona, in the atWork Australia office in South Yarra, Victoria. Fiona encouraged Cooper to work towards his dream role and supported him to showcase his talents. He transformed his resume into an animation – watch it here.
At the same time, the atWork Australia team was looking for a video to help clients understand what they could expect when it came to working with atWork Australia.
The team saw Cooper’s resume and hired Cooper to produce our ‘Welcome to atWork Australia’ video; sharing his personal experience, as a person who is autistic, on his journey with atWork Australia and what others might expect.
During the process, Cooper found he needed better equipment to help with the sound recording for the video.
The local atWork Australia team financially supported him to purchase a microphone to record.
Cooper now has work experience and is looking to pursue self-employment in animation.
He continues to receive tailored and personalised support from the local atWork Australia team who are now looking at supporting Cooper to learn more about self-employment and how to run his own business.
