What to expect in the recruitment process

The online application allows you to attach a résumé, an optional cover letter, and any applicable qualifications and licences. If you need help to complete your application, please contact our recruitment team on 1300 080 856.

An interview will be offered to shortlisted candidates. Depending on the volume of those shortlisted, a phone screen may precede the interview. The interview panel usually consists of two people. You’ll be asked behavioural questions based on your past work experience. Be sure to read the job advertisement and criteria to help you prepare a few examples you can use to outline the situation, the action taken, and the outcome.

Pre-screening includes a police clearance, a Working with Children Check and psychological testing. atWork Australia requires all applicants to be screened for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people. You will also need to show proof of your right to work in Australia.

atWork Australia conducts and pays for all police checks, however we obtain your written consent beforehand. A person’s police history does not preclude employability unless the offence is relevant to the role. Please see our Dispute Handling Process. For interview, we may ask you to complete a police check application and consent form. It is best to bring as many of your original identity documents to the interview for sighting. These need to show proof of your full name, address, date of birth, and photograph. Documents such as your birth certificate, passport, Visa/ImmiCard, Australian citizenship, Australian driver’s licence, marriage certificate, vehicle registration, student identification card, Medicare card, credit cards, will be useful to bring.

atWork Australia pays for all Working with Children Checks. Please download your National Police Check Consent form here. atWork Australia may arrange for you to sit an online psychological test provided externally.

Reference Checks are usually conducted following interview. It is good practice to provide two of your most recent work-related referees whom you have directly reported to as a supervisor. It is best to advise them and confirm their willingness to be contacted. This allows them to respond well in providing answers to questions based on your work background, skills and experiences.
