When Disability Employment Services client, Riley, started with atWork Australia in Sunbury, almost a year ago they had limited skills and experience.
At only 23 years old, Riley was only at the beginning of their employment journey.
They shared with their Job Coach, Vilda, their goal was to find meaningful employment in hospitality.
Vilda supported Riley to enroll in a Certificate III in hospitality to support their goal.
“Riley could not financially support a qualification,” said Vilda.
“The support from atWork Australia helped them take the first step towards their employment goals.”
By the end of 2024 Riley had successfully completed their course and now needed to undertake 120 hours of work placement.
Together with Vilda they spoke about completing the placement with a company who Riley could see as a future employer.
They had a dream of working for a specific local Hotel. atWork Australia with the support of the local training organisation, spoke to the hotel. They were willing to give Riley a chance however they would need them to have a responsible service of alcohol ticket (RSA) to complete the placement.
Vilda again supported Riley to enroll in the ticket, and they successfully completed their work placement.
At Riley’s next appointment, they shared with Vilda that they had just been offered an employment contract at the same hotel.
Their next goal is to increase their hours at work and over time progress their career by taking on more responsibilities.
Vilda and the atWork Australia team will continue to support Riley towards these work goals through In Work Support.
