Tara (51) lives with anxiety, depression and physical limitations. Unfortunately, Tara experienced domestic violence. She was determined to find the belief in herself, and the first step was to reach out to atWork Australia.
Tara met Job Coach Brad in the Shepparton atWork Australia office in Victoria. Tara had experienced difficulties with managing her anxiety and connecting with employers. She was keen to join an understanding employer who is culturally diverse and open to working with diverse groups of people.
Job Coach Brad assisted Tara with building confidence in herself and encouraged her to step forward and look at the bright things. Brad made Tara believe that she is capable of great things and worked through any doubts holding her back from adapting to change. Brad and the atWork Australia team have been very supportive to Tara by helping her build the confidence to leave her house so she can attend her regular appointments.
Job Coach Brad and atWork Australia also supported Tara to complete her RSA course so she could gain valuable skills and apply for a range of employment opportunities. With Brad’s assistance, Tara secured a role as a Team Member/Consult Operator at 7-Eleven.
Tara is enjoying her employment journey with 7-Eleven. It has been a motivating experience for Tara as she sees herself in this role for the long-term. She feels supported and believes that 7-Eleven has been very appreciative and supportive, working with culturally diverse people.
Job Coach Brad says: “When I met Tara, she told me she was a broken shell and that it has taken her a long time to find herself and believe in herself again. Now, she is already helping train other staff members with her retail background. Her manager has called Tara her “floor queen” as she is proactive and helpful in the workplace.”
When Brad told Tara the good news that she was successful in securing employment, she: “was very excited and couldn’t believe that it all happened so fast.”
Tara says: “The 7-Eleven store in Shepparton is a new store and I was ecstatic that I was able to be a part of the beginning process of opening the store and helping build it in the community. I am helping create a sugar rush heaven in the community, I have seen more Krispy Kreme’s than I have ever desired to see. I am proud of myself on keeping the food fresh in the shop and checked regularly.”
Tara adds: “It has been really easy to work with Brad as a Job Coach. I can reach out to him through technology easily and Brad is firm, fair and has encouraged me to do things I believe I couldn’t. Brad encourages my individuality to shine and has been understanding of my past experiences. He has inspired me and given me reasons to push forward.”
Brad says: “I am very happy with Tara being in a supportive workplace where she is able to be herself and look forward to her future. I always believe in Tara and am happy to see her come into our office and talk positively about her workplace and how her life has changed for the better.
Tara’s story showcases that work is for everyone and all job seekers have strengths that they can bring to the workplace.
“My life is now at the next level. I am looking forward to having a steady income and being able to focus on my future and not stress about my finances.”
