A Youth Hub was held at atWork Australia’s Joondalup jobactive offices on 10 March 2021. It was a huge success for both job seekers and the organisations and the services who attended, with everyone already signing up for the next event in April 2021.
The Youth Hub is a one stop shop for job seekers to access services and resources that they need throughout their job search journey. Organisations who attended included Department of Transport, Dress for Success, Training Course Experts, Training Alliance, IES, Job Activator, Bridging the Gap, Police Recruitment, Greenhouse Training, Women’s Health and Family Services, Centrelink and North Metro TAFE. atWork Australia hosted this event from 11am-1pm at their offices in Joondalup.
Assistance was also provided from atWork Australia’s staff with Resumes and interview skills training, and it was a great opportunity to network with all the support organisations who were in attendance.
Dress for Success, a not for profit organisation who source the clothing, shoes, accessories and makeup for job seekers received several referrals to their service and will need to bring more resources to the next Hub. The Department of Transport also requested more space at the next Hub as they were busy assisting several job seekers at once, and two training providers had courses booked on the day. The Police Cadets were popular amongst the job seekers as they spoke about their upcoming recruitment drive.
Riann Thorp, Branch Manager from atWork Australia’s Joondalup office was behind the Youth Hub concept and she was thrilled with the outcome of the initial event. ‘We had more than 30 job seekers register to come along and the feedback from everyone who attended has been fantastic. It was so great to see training courses booked immediately, licencing questions answered and job seekers able to create Resumes on the spot. The activity in the room was buzzing and we cannot wait to host this event on 7 April. We may look to expand the day as we want as many service providers and support organisations to attend, as well as more job seekers from the area’.
