As we kick off 2022, we’re planning our goals for the year ahead. We’re looking to facilitate real social change by opening discussions and creating content to inform and inspire our networks on the positive implications of people living with disability, injury, health condition or disadvantage finding meaningful employment opportunities.
People living with disability have many contributions to make to workplaces and the wider community, but their capacity to do so can be limited by the perceptions or actions of others.
By creating a space where all employees have equal access to employment, Australian businesses can access the full talent pool, allowing both people and businesses to thrive.
We have pulled together the attached tip sheet that highlights some misconceptions and outlines the benefits of creating a safe environment for employees, or potential employees, to disclose their disability.
If you’re looking for more information for managers or staff to build their knowledge, atWork Australia runs Disability Awareness Training every six weeks for all our employer partners and those looking to learn more.
As we navigate getting back to the office, more social engagements and a sense of normality, it can be quite overwhelming; check in regularly with all team members to see how they’re doing. This will allow employees to feel connected and more confident in communicating any concerns they may have.
